Richard Evans has received critical acclaim for his future noir thrillers, Machine Nation and Robophobia (Figo Books), which take inspiration from the real-world development of androids & humanoid robots. The stories deal with ethical questions around scientific progress, slavery and the nature of humanity. His work is topical, thought-provoking and lyrical.

His first novel, Machine Nation, was originally published in the UK in 2002. Since then, he has received Writer's Bursary and Individual Artist Awards from Arts Council England and has visited the Humanoid Robotics Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology while researching both Robophobia (2004) and Exilium (2008). He has written factual articles based on his research and contributed short fiction to several anthologies, including The Flash and Perverted By Language.

Originally a musician, he played in several bands, including St Vitus Dancers and James, during the 1980s and 90s before turning to writing in 1997. He lives in Manchester, England.
