Richard Evans has received critical acclaim for his future noir thrillers,
Machine Nation and Robophobia (Figo Books), which take inspiration
from the real-world development of androids & humanoid robots.
The stories deal with ethical questions around scientific progress,
slavery and the nature of humanity. His work is topical, thought-provoking
and lyrical.
His first novel, Machine Nation, was originally published in the
UK in 2002. Since then, he has received Writer's Bursary and Individual
Artist Awards from Arts Council England and has visited the Humanoid
Robotics Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology while researching
both Robophobia (2004) and Exilium (2008). He has written factual
articles based on his research and contributed short fiction to several
anthologies, including The Flash and Perverted By Language.
Originally a musician, he played in several bands, including St Vitus
Dancers and James, during the 1980s and 90s before turning to writing
in 1997. He lives in Manchester, England.
